About the project

Context

The common territorial challenge addressed by FISHINN is the recovery of the local fisheries ecosystems and value chains in the Atlantic Area.

As indicated in the “EU Blue economy report 2021” fisheries’ ecosystems are progressively losing competitiveness due to the COVID crisis, impact of Brexit, lack of qualified workforce and generational replacement, fuel price, global supply chain disruptions, quota regulatory uncertainty, climate change, marine pollution among others.

On the other hand, demand on food fish in the world is projected to increase by 14.8% (OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2021-2030). In the Atlantic Area, fisheries play a crucial role in the socio-economic advancement of coastal communities.

our Objectives

The project aims to increase the competitiveness and resilience of local fisheries ecosystems and value chains in the Atlantic Area by reinforcing local actors’ collaboration and innovation capacities.

Knowledge exchange among stakeholders in different territories supported by technological centers and clusters will stimulate the creation of new economic activities and transitioning towards smart, circular and more efficient business models and innovative solutions in the local fisheries ecosystems.

FISHINN intends to tackle some of the key challenges that local fisheries ecosystem are facing to increase their resilience and competitiveness :

  • Cooperation and innovation
  • Digitalisation
  • Transition towards a circular economy
  • Co-existence with other blue economy sectors
